Travel Advice

Find out all the essential information you need before heading to Kavos this summer, including a map, the weather to expect, health and safety tips, emergency numbers, a guide to the nightlife and strip, and other top tips!

When To Go To Kavos, Corfu

The season for Kavos, like most of our other Greek destinations, starts in June and ends around the beginning of September. As soon as June comes around the venues will be opening up their doors for the biggest and best events and will stay open each and every week up until September! Kavos is at its busiest in July and August, these two months are when the strip is going to be packed full of holiday goers. June is a little quieter but there’s still no denying that there’s atmosphere in Kavos, no matter when you go. So it really depends what you are looking for, no matter when you go you will undoubtedly have the best week of your lives. Most of our customers ask these main two questions: when’s the cheapest time to go? Or when is the busiest time to go? So we’ll break it down for you below:

Cheapest

If you’re looking to snap up a mega deal then your best bet is to go at the beginning of June or towards the end of August, this is when most holidays to Kavos will be the cheapest.

Busiest

The busiest time to go to Kavos is either July or August, with July being the busiest month of the season. The strip will be at its peak but expect to pay a bit more for your holiday during these months.

The Weather In Kavos, Corfu

Corfu weather won’t disappoint, with an average of 12 hours of sun a day you’ll have plenty of time to work on your tans. Temperatures are very rarely below the 30s too! On the odd occasion that it does rain (very odd occasion) that doesn’t stop the party. June, July and August are guaranteed to be scorching with temperatures peaking in July. Top tips to survive the Kavos heat:

  • Make sure you use sun protection and drink plenty of water to stay hydrated
  • Get Air-Con! Most hotels will charge an extra but it will be so worth it. It’s usually charged per room so split the cost with your friends

Health & Safety

Before you head out to Corfu, make sure you have adequate travel and medical insurance. Different insurance providers cover for different things, so make sure you read what cover you will get carefully before just going for the cheapest option – nobody wants to be hit with a big medical bill for a minor accident.

Although this should not be used as a substitute for insurance, you should consider taking a European Health Insurance Card (EHIC). An EHIC allows you to claim back any money spent on emergency treatment received within state hospitals (not private centres). Please note private medical centres and ongoing medical conditions are not covered with an EHIC, which is why insurance should also be purchased. If you do take medication for ongoing conditions, we also advise taking enough with you to cover your trip and then some, to allow for any delays to your flight home. Some of you may be wondering what affect Brexit will have on the EHIC card and here’s what we know. As far as we are aware EHIC cards will currently still be valid for all 2020 holidays. Information on the validity of the EHIC in 2021 is yet to be announced.

In the unfortunate event of you falling ill on holiday, there are a number of places that you can seek medical help in Kavos. For minor ailments, you can use the chemist and for more serious problems there are a number of medical centres on the strip that provide a 24-hour service to tourists and locals in the Kavos area. Please be advised that most medical centres operate privately, which is why we recommend travel insurance. The nearest state hospital is located in Corfu town.

Passports and Visas

You don’t need a visa to travel to Corfu if you hold a British or European passport, but you will need a valid passport. Make sure that your passport is valid before you leave and will remain valid for the duration of your stay – you will not need any additional period of validity. If you’re wondering about how Brexit will affect travel to Corfu, the government foreign travel advice has stated that the above passport information will be valid until 31 December 2020.

Police and Security

If you are in need of any police assistance, there is a police station located in the next town of Lefkimi. In cases of emergency, dial the emergency number 112 to be put directly through to police. A lot of the hotels in Kavos have their own security guards, so should you need to report anything in or around your hotel, make sure you go to them.

Money & ATMs

You will find a number of ATMs on the strip in Kavos, but before you use them, be sure to check with your bank how much they will charge you to withdraw, as most ATMs will charge you a transaction fee. Most places in Kavos only accept cash. You can also use prepaid currency cards when you stay which allow you to top up an amount before you leave and budget your spending. There are also new online banks that are perfect for when you go abroad as they allow you to withdraw a certain amount of money and use your card to a certain limit without any extra charges. Some of our reps use these cards too! Check which ones best suit you.
